A Concert of Remembrance - 1/26/25

On Sunday, January 26th, ASMITHMUSIC in partnership with Grace Episcopal Church, we will be presenting A Concert of Remembrance: A double-bill presentation of The Mozart Requiem with orchestra and The Chariot Jubilee by R. Nathaniel Dett. This concert featuring the Chancel Choir of Grace Episcopal Church and The Sam Bonds Chorale will explore remembering the promise of salvation through these two sacred works. Mozart’s Requiem takes the listener on a journey desiring eternal peace and salvation by asking Jesus to hear their prayers, and remember them in the day of when the trumpet shall sound. Dett’s Chariot Jubilee reflects the same sentiments of the Requiem by helping the listener see the opening of heaven on last day, as God’s promise of salvation is heard through the text painting musical layering of harmonies and melodic lines. We will also be accompanied by orchestra and the Muse n Motion Dance Company. Get your tickets by scanning the QR code on the flyer or clicking on the flyer.

The Negro Speaks of Rivers...Still

The Samuel Bonds Vocal Arts and Opera Workshop and ASMITHMUSIC LLC invite you to our next installment of The Negro Speaks of Rivers...Still, featuring singers in the DMV area. Our two organizations have come together for the third year in a row, in an effort to help keep the genre of the Spiritual alive and share the importance of African-American Music with the community. This year, we will be highlighting African-American Female Composers and our special guest composer Evelyn Simpson-Curenton.  We will be partnering with dancers from the Arts Haven School of Dance and Music as well as members of the Sam Bonds Chorale. We hope you can join us as we begin to rekindle the fire of this amazing genre of music throughout the DC area.
